Friday, March 28 | 12:45pm

"What makes Jerusalem special?" Lecture with Professor Jodi Magness

In this talk, we travel thousands of years back in time to understand how this remote and relatively poor mountain town came to be sacred to the three Abrahamic faiths.

The lecture is preceded by Shabbat Services at 9:30am, including a d'var Torah by Professor Magness, and a kiddush lunch at 12pm.

Jodi Magness is the Kenan Distinguished Professor for Teaching Excellence in Early Judaism at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a distinguished archaeologist, having participated in 20 different excavations in Israel and Greece. Her research interests include Jerusalem, Qumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls, ancient synagogues, Masada, the Roman army in the East, and ancient pottery. She has numerous publications, including award-winning books, articles, and lectures for The Great Courses company. Professor Magness received her B.A. in Archaeology and History from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and her Ph.D. in Classical Archaeology from the University of Pennsylvania.
